Stephen T. Colbert’s I Am America (and So Can You!)

You must admire a man who writes a book yet doesn’t trust books. That’s right, the man behind the desk of The Colbert Report, (Stephen Colbert) has dictated a book for the masses on how to be the perfect patriot. The book goes through the three stages of life: childhood, adolescence, and maturity. All Americanized. He takes on tough subjects such as the family, higher education, the media, and a hot topic of elections in today’s society, immigration. The book is written in such a way as to seem that the material is in fact truth when common knowledge tells us otherwise. Let me pop open the book and see if I can find… okay here’s one:

“All weather is sin-related. Lust causes thunder, anger causes fog, and you don’t want to know what causes dew” (Stephen Colbert on Religion)

Even though the book is very “wrong” he does seem to make some brain tickers every now and then:

“You will soon learn that peer pressure is a terrible thing. You’re going to be tempted to go follow the crowd-” (Stephen Colbert on Higher Education)

However he follows up that statement with:

“-into the classroom. Fight It.”

It’s literally like having The Colbert Report on your bookshelf. As far as laughs go this book is meant for people who have a general idea of how the world works. If you don’t know what it means to be left-winged then you may want to sit this one out. For icing on the cake there is a transcript of his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2006.

Filled with humor, political satire, and the I’m-the-greatest attitudes, this book is hard to put down. For grading purposes let’s use a 1-10 Snorks grading scale!

8.5 Snorks out of 10

8.5!!! This book is turns it up to 11. Steven Colbert is America and if you love America then you need to read this book. I mean the book even says by opening this book you will become 25% more patriotic, so why not read it. So maybe being a member of Colbert Nation makes me biased…is that such a bad thing haha

    Great Post
