Last week, on my way home from a long day of work, I decided to stop by the local liquor store. This place has a pretty good selection of beers from different places. “Different” as in not from Anheuser Busch. It was a cold night and I decided to pick up a hearty beer. I chose the Great Lakes Brewing Company Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I recently reviewed the Great Lakes Brewing Co. Burning River Pale Ale over on Walt’s personal blog.
Appearance:
This Porter pours a dark, opaque, black caramel color with a beach sand-colored head. The lacing is tight and clingy. The head is still present after 20 minutes of enjoyment! Wow!
Nose:
Coffee coffee and more coffee. Thick, deep, complex scents of toasted malts.
Taste:
Again with the coffee. More of a cold coffee taste than hot, obviously. Bold and bittersweet. Delicious.
Mouth feel:
Rich, creamy and smooth. Feels like you can chew on it but not chewy if that makes sense.
Drinkability:
Fantastic porter! This would be great with a hearty meal. I would definitely buy this again and share with friends!

Yeah, I had a bottle up here @ Bocktown Grill. It’s not my fav but it’s one of those things that goes great with a burger now and then.
Damn, another great sounding brew from Great Lakes. I’ve got to see if my local place has any from this brewer.
thanks for the review!
Thanks for reading Doc! Definitely check and see if you can land yourself some of this beer. Especially if you enjoy porters! Ciao!
