Great review Mike, i think i need a cough mint hahaha. I very very rarely ever drink and unfortunately this is one of the beers i drank when i did. I have to agree with you that it is like cough syrup. It was gross and does not live up to other Sam Adams

  2. Nice review Mike! I know when I’m feeling under the weather, nothing makes me feel better like a good ole fashioned cough mint.

BTW, I’ve had this beer too and I will tell you, it doesn’t go well with pizza either.

Great Review, though I havn’t had many, i have never been disappointed by a Sam Adams. Don’t know about the Cherry Wheat

    Kasubot,

Thanks for watching the review! I too have never been disappointed with Sam Adams products, but this one really let me down.

    Mike,
Great job with the review once again. The way you describe it, it would not appeal to me in the slightest bit.

Good to know what to avoid the next time I’m at the beer distributor and looking to try something new.

Mike, good stuff. This was one of the first beers I really liked, back about 20 yrs ago (before I knew what good beer was)! I could drink them by the bucket and often did!

Now-a-days, I’ll have an occasional Bluberry Ale and have accidentally picked up some spiced ales (the label looked hella cool and it’s called Jaw Jacker with a pic of a crazy jack-o-lantern dude) and I’ll be more careful in the future!

    Thanks again Bro!

    Mike,
Good review. I jave had the cherry Wheat a few times. I agree entirly with your assessment. Too me it tastes just like a ludens cough drop.

    Like the new setup.

  8. LOL @ “Wait I’m confused.” (Drinks more.)

My approach to flavored beers is like my approach to flavored cigars. Sure, they can be fun once in a while, but they’re never a regular rotation drink.

OK, I gotta take that back. I did drink McMenamins Ruby a lot. It was pretty tart, but more raspeberry in flavor. It still tasted like beer too. Nothing else flavored compares. But then, I wasn’t reviewing beers.

My first cherry beer was out of Michigan at the Oregon Brewer’s Fest in probably 1999 or 2000. It blew my mind at the time. First I’d ever seen. Great in the sample size, as was the chili beer. (Tasted like freakin’ spicy nacho cheese!) Drinking either in any quantity is a recipe for stomach FAIL. LOL

  9. D’Oh, forgot about Henry Weinhard’s Blackberry Wheat. I used to drink that fairly often too. Still not as good as the Ruby, and I’m not sure I’d drink it now.

Did you ever check out my unscientific, mostly useless cross country pub crawl/review? Probably would have been better if we compiled our notes as we went. Oh well. Good times.

    Mike,
Great review as always. I’m not a big Sam Adams fan, the only one I like is their summer ale. Some day I will have to get my hands on their Utopias and try that.
